Except that EMC, by default, does the same thing unless it’s turned off…and so the two data corruption recovery routines, AIX & EMC, butted heads and trashed the disk! It took EMC (which admitted they should have shut off their routine, as they usually did with all AIX installs) a week to get things straightened out. If that ‘inivisble’ space gets used up, AIX starts using visible space. With IBM RS/6000 disk, there is reserved space for this when the format is done…some of the disk space ‘lost’ in formatting is used for this. Aix checks for data integrity if it finds corruption, it transfers the data from that sector on the disk to a new clean area. Some 10 years back I had a disaster with a new EMC installation running with AIX.
